A film set has a whole world of unfamiliar terms, unspoken expectations, and industry-specific rules. Thing is, it's a freelance world, so no one has time to teach you the rules . . . but they'll definitely yell at you if you get them wrong. Or, they might just not hire you again.
The good news is, the terms, rules and expectations are easy to understand, if someone just takes the time to teach you, and that is exactly what The Power P.A. Course does.
We take a deep dive into every aspect of succeeding as a Production Assistant, with a focus on moving up to the job you really want.
The training is broken up into skills-based videos that get to the point, and teach you how to succeed on real-world film sets.
Where to find P.A. gigs
How to land a steady stream of jobs
What to expect when you arrive on set
What will be expected of you
The unspoken rules of working on a film set
Specific instruction for every common P.A. task
Strategies that will get you hired again
Strategies that will help you move up faster
Surprising pitfalls that will keep you stuck at the bottom
How to read a call sheet
How to communicate over radio
How to manage your petty cash
How to manage lockups
And much more . . .

When you pass the final exam and graduate, you'll be invited to add your listing to The Power P.A. Directory.
This is where productions can find and hire you.
Only Power P.A. graduates are allowed on the directory, so productions know they're getting a trained, set savvy P.A.
There's a specific resume format productions expect. Resumes that don't match it are often discarded immediately.
#1 To help you land your first job - even though you have
zero
film experience.
#2 To help you get those next few jobs and build experience.
#3 When you've worked enough jobs to fill a resume, this is the template you'll use for the rest of your career.
One-On-One Career Coaching
You're going to encounter questions along the way. When you do, reach out and an instructor will set up a one-on-one zoom call to offer career counseling and advice.
Maybe something from a lesson is confusing, or you encounter an awkward situation on set. Maybe you just need advice before taking your next step.
Each student is entitled to four one-on-one career counseling sessions.
Office Hours
It's an open zoom hosted by one of the instructors. Students pop in to ask questions, and check in.
The Power P.A. Mentorship Group
This is where you'll find fellow students and graduates, your humble instructors and invited film industry experts.

Resume Review
After you use one of the templates in the Power P.A. Resourced center to build your resume, send it over to be reviewed by one of the course instructors.
Not only have all the instructors been P.A.s, we've hired them, and we know exactly what causes one resume to land in the "hire" pile, and another in the recycle bin. We'll give you the inside scoop.
We Started Where You Are Now
We're working film professionals, and we all started as Production Assistants.
We've seen too many new P.A.s get yelled at for breaking the unspoken rules of a film set, so we decided to do something about it.
That's why we built The Power P.A. Course.
We want to see the next generation of P.A.s have an easier time finding work, being treated with respect, and succeeding in the film industry.
Dave Nugent
Lead Instructor
Dave’s has been teaching how to succeed as a P.A., and build a career in the industry since 2015. His deep understanding of how to succeed in the film industry comes from nearly two decades of experience on set.
After starting as a P.A., Dave built a successful film career, moving up to several positions and departments, including Production Coordinator, Art Department, Locations, Transportation and Craft Service. He and his wife, Bobbie and operates Go4Nuge Production Rentals.
Matt Krzycki
Instructor &
Communications Director
Matt started as a P.A. twice - once right out of school, and again when he re-entered the film industry in 2000.
Matt has produced, shot and edited videos for biggest brands in the world, and now specializes in producing and marketing online courses.
He uses what he learned as a P.A. every day as the Creative Director at GoodSide Studio.
Mark Bueing
Instructor &
Director of Student Success
Mark began his career in the Film Industry in 2008 as a Production Assistant. His interests led him to the Grip and Electric departments. He paid his dues and honed his skills by working on Indie Features and Episodic TV.
He now works consistently on a mix of mostly Corporate and Commercial productions as a Gaffer and Key Grip.
Mark is active as a Mentor in the local Film Community and is the Director of Student Success for The Power P.A. Course.

We wouldn't say The Power P.A. is "better" than film school. We're another option, that can be useful whether you go to film school or not.
We don't teach the history or theory that you're going to learn in film school. Those can be valuable lessons, especially if you want to be a Director or a Director of Photography.
Reality Check #1: Not everyone has the time or money to go to film school. Starting as a Production Assistant and moving up is viable alternative to film school.
Reality Check #2: Even if you go to film school, you'll probably still start as a Production Assistant. We have many students who went to film school, but still signed up for the course, because they needed help getting started.
Reality Check #3: There are a lot of people with film degrees who never want to set foot on another set. If you're thinking about going to film school, we'd recommend working on a few sets as a Production Assistant first. It's an easy, low commitment way to check it out.
That's up to you. Some students complete the course in less than a week, and others take more than a month. In addition to studying the course videos, you'll want to allow time to write your resume, connecting with your fellow students, and familiarizing yourself with The Power P.A. Resource Center.
How quickly will I start to find work?
We see some graduates finding gigs in as little as two weeks of completion, but that result can't be guaranteed for every student.
Your level of success will depend on many factors, including your aptitude, level of commitment, and willingness to put in the work. While we can't guarantee when or if you'll find work, we can guarantee we'll provide you with world-class training, resources, and support to help you find the gigs and rise above the competition.
